New Brunswick Fiddler performs at Olympic Opening

Loreena McKennitt added a Celtic lilt to the evening with her performance of The Old Ways on a Gaelic harp. Moments later amid a carpet of red maple leafs, Cape Breton’s Ashley MacIsaac and tap soloist Brock Jellison added some heat into the night as over 200 tap dancers and dancing fiddlers, created an explosive, fiery beat. Keeping the rhythm at a pace were fiddlers Calvin Vollrath, André Brunet, Daniel Lapp, Samantha Robichaud, Sierra Noble, and April Verch.

New Brunswick Multi Instrumentalist Ryan Leblanc Performs at the Olympics this Weekend

St. Andrews, NB based multi instrumentalist Ryan Leblanc flies to the Vancouver Olympics on Friday for a performance at Atlantic Canada House Saturday Feb 21st. Leblanc will hit the ACH Stage with Nova Scotia's Dave Gunning, In Flight Safety and Newfoundland and Labrador's Hey Rosetta.
Atlantic Canada House is a project of the four Atlantic provinces to bring east coast talent to the world in Vancouver. Every night and day during the games a number of east coast performers will showcase their music. Leblanc is one of a number od New Brunswick artists who will be on stage in Vancouver. Included are blues machine Matt Andersen, award winning singer/songwriter David Myles, Opera superstar Meesha Bruggergossman and a host of others.
Leblanc won an ECMA last year for his sophmore release “Against The Grain” and has been busy touring the UK, Germany Ontario and the Maritimes over the past year. His recent German tour saw Leblanc play 11 dates in German theatres with three other world class guitarists, englishman Steve , Canadian Dave Goodman and German superstar Peter Finger. In addition to the tour Leblanc released an album in Germnay “Speechless”, signed with German distributor Acoustic Music Records and was the subject of a feature article in Europe's largest Acoustic Music Magazine “Acoustic Guitar”.
He will return to Europe in April for another tour and will then tour in New England in May with Old Man Luedecke and Catherine MacLellan before hosting both South African Tony Cox and Chilean one armed guitarist Andres Godoy this summer. .

13 - Keith Hallett heads west on a 30 date tour that will take him to the Coast and Back

Fredericton blues phenom Keith Hallett heads west next week on a 40 day 30 show date tour that will see him play 3 festivals, a few concert series and 20+ venues from prairie bars to mountain resorts!! The 20 year old award winning bluesman will also take a tour break half way through to fly back to Sydney NS to showcase at this year's ECMA's . Hallett has two showcases. He'll play the concert series on Thursday Night and his set will be recorded by CBC for a future Canada Live show. He's also performing for international buyers at a special afternoon showcase.

Both the western tour and the ECMA's are firsts for Keith. He was slated to play in Corner Brook last year but the death of a close friend kept him at home. And although he's played in Vancouver before this will be his first of many western swings, in fact another is already in the works for October.

Media Advisory/ Communiqué  de presseFeb 16/2010

Building a sustainable arts coArtsLink Logommunity in New Brunswick.
ArtsLink NB begins an exploration to join all province's artists and arts organizations.

Beginning February 17, 2010, ArtsLink NB will begin a search for all of New Brunswick's artists, including painters, writers, poets, performing artists, dancers, film and video makers, fine craft makers, potters, actors and more.

"Our goal is to have professional and emerging artists, arts organizations and supporters of the arts join ArtsLink NB and build a cohesive voice for the arts in New Brunswick. We are looking for artists from every discipline and every region," says Sandy MacKay, ArtsLink NB's Executive Director.

ArtsLink NB is offering artists, arts organizations and supporters a free one-year membership to actively engage them with this new provincial arts networking organization.  The offer is open until June 30 2010, for the 2010/11 membership period.

"Our goal is to build a positive environment for the arts, in which artists and arts organizations can be sustainable. On average, a professional artist in New Brunswick earns approximately $15,642 annually and the majority of arts organizations operate in peril. This needs to change.

Traditionally, different disciplines of arts have worked in isolation. We believe that formally joining all of the arts together is the only way we can take the arts community to a new level in this province,to strengthen the cultural community and to develop the creative economy."

Through a series of forums, ArtsLink NB members will develop common goals and programs, including business and marketing workshops, mentoring, public awareness and arts education initiatives.

ArtsLink NB will reach out to the province's artists using public media, on-line resources, municipal events listings, organizations' newsletters, ArtsLink NB's website, www.artslinknb.com, facebook and twitter sites and popular indie artist sites like www.
