Contact East and Ontario Contact are pleased to announce showcasing applications are now being accepted online at www.iwanttoshowcase.ca. The launch of the new website allows touring performing artists in music, theatre and dance to apply for both events and simplifies the submission process. Contact East 2010 is taking place in Antigonish, NS from September 23 – 26 and Ontario Contact is in Parry Sound, ON from October 27 – 30.
Sue Urquhart is the Executive Director of the Atlantic Presenters Association (APA) and Chair of Contact East 2010. Sue and the APA staff collaborated with the Ontario Presenting Network and Ontario Contact to develop the new website. “One of the goals for both Ontario Contact & Contact East 2010 is to add value for artists participating in these events. Part of that is managing the administration of showcasing applications in an organized, efficient and thorough way. When artists upload their information it generates a database we will use as a resource for marketing, communications and planning purposes including jurying and scheduling for the showcase and conference.”Contact East and Ontario Contact engage artists, presenters, workshop leaders, and various government and arts service agencies in showcase performances, workshops and an arts industry marketplace. The deadline to apply for a showcase for both events is in two parts with applications due March 30, 2010 and support material due April 30, 2010. The keyboard we have sounds amazing through a space echo, The Palimino in Calgary is an actual Honky Tonk Bar, Have you ever seen an entire side of beef on a sandwhich?, Garlic Fries are appropriately named, Forest Tate Fraser is a good songwriter in Calgary, Someone stole our video Camera, Goodbye video blogs!, If you pull off the highway between Calgary and Edmonton you have to do some driving to get to the nearest Food Emporium or pee spot, Edmonton is Canada's 5th largest city, Doug Hoyer is a great guy and he will be touring to a town near you soon, Colleen Brown is a super awesome singer/songwriter, The Hydeaway is a great venue and is surprisingly easy to find, Jasper is amazing and the community here resembles the cast of Northern Exposure which was a great TV series, We saw Caribou, Big Horned Sheep, and deer within 15 minutes of leaving the downtown, Marc Leblanc is a great person and you should buy liquor from his wonderful selection at the Liquor Lodge. Soon we will be on Vancouver island playing shows with a wonderful new artist who performs as My Lovely Son.

Moncton, 22 mars 2010 – En prévision de la sixième édition de RE:FLUX, le festival propose une activité PRÉ:FLUX, soit une performance de Ken Aldcroft, guitariste expérimental, présenté au Café Aberdeen, samedi, 27 mars, à 20 h. Les billets seront disponibles sur place, sans prix fixe (selon le principe de « payez ce que vous pouvez »).
Ken Aldcroft est un incontournable de la scène d’improvisation de Toronto, et un expert créateur de sons fins qu’il transforme en méditations complexes. Ses boucles de sons autogénérés produisent des textures merveilleusement subtiles. Travaillant avant tout avec le ton clair de sa guitare électrique, Ken exploite judicieusement les distorsions possibles en empruntant des dispositifs de boucles et de traitement de sons, et crée ainis des toiles de sons multidimensionnels. La musique solo de Ken Aldcroft fait référence à plusieurs styles et traditions qui constituent son monde sonore : surtout le blues électrique classique, mais aussi le jazz moderne, et l’improvisation libre, à la façon de Derek Bailey.

KEN ALDCROFT, A SPECIAL PRESENTATION OF THE RE:FLUX FESTIVAL
Moncton, March 22, 2010 – As part of this sixth edition of RE:FLUX coming in May, the festival proposes a PRE:FLUX event, namely a performance by experimental guitarist, Ken Aldcroft, presented at Café Aberdeen, Saturday, March 27, at 8 PM. Tickets are available at the door, on a pay what you can basis.
Ken Aldcroft is a mainstay on Toronto’s improvising scene and is an expert at creating fine‐grained sounds and plugging them into multi‐part meditations. His self‐generated loops produce some wonderfully subtle textures. Though working primarily with the relatively clean tone of his electric hollow‐body guitar, Ken judiciously exploits the possibilities of distortion and, with various looping and processing devices, can create spidery, multidimensional lattices of sound. Ken's solo music makes stylistic reference to several traditions that are key components of his composite sound‐world: Especially, classic electric blues, modern jazz, and Derek Bailey‐inspired free improvisation.
The festival is supported by the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport of New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Arts Board, the Socan Foundation, and the City of Moncton. Hello everyone, A group has offered to prepare promotional videos of Moncton this summer for the City of Moncton website, at no charge. We would like to provide some video footage of cultural and artistic events. We have a lot going on in our city throughout the year and we want to make sure the videos have an important artistic and cultural content, one that showcases our dynamic arts and culture scene. To this effect, would you have existing footage of your artistic and cultural events to send us? For those of you who don't have existing footage, and feel that some events should be in the promotional videos, we are exploring the possibility of hiring a videographer to obtain any missing footage (large festivals, smaller cultural events, creation workshops, dance classes, art exhibits, etc.). We're looking for visually appealing events. If you feel there are important events that should be included, please contact me and we may be able to make arrangements to film some suggested events, at our cost. While we can't guarantee that all of the footage we submit to them will end up in the video, we thought your event or organization might have some interesting material to submit. We would appreciate your participation. Please let me know if you are interested in this opportunity to showcase your event.

Bonjour tout le monde,Un groupe a offert de préparer gratuitement des vidéos promotionnelles sur Moncton cet été pour le site Web de la Ville de Moncton. Nous aimerions lui présenter des séquences vidéo d’événements culturels et artistiques. Il y a beaucoup d’événements dans notre ville tout au long de l’année, et nous voulons nous assurer que les vidéos ont un contenu artistique et culturel important qui illustre le dynamisme de notre scène artistique et culturelle.
À cet égard, auriez-vous des séquences vidéo de vos événements artistiques et culturels que vous pourriez nous transmettre?
Dans le cas de ceux et celles qui n’ont pas de séquences vidéo mais qui estiment que certains événements devraient figurer dans les vidéos promotionnelles, nous étudions la possibilité d’embaucher un vidéographe afin d’obtenir les séquences vidéos manquantes (ex. : grands festivals, plus petits événements culturels, ateliers de création, cours de danse, expositions d’art, etc.). Nous cherchons des événements visuellement intéressants. Si vous estimez qu’il faudrait inclure certains événements importants, veuillez communiquer avec moi, et nous évaluerons votre suggestion et, au besoin, nous pourrions prendre des mesures pour filmer certains événements à nos frais.
Même si nous ne pouvons garantir que toutes les séquences vidéo que nous soumettrons figureront dans les vidéos promotionnelles préparées par le groupe, nous avons pensé que votre événement ou votre organisme pourrait avoir du matériel intéressant à soumettre. Votre participation serait appréciée.

APPEL DE CANDIDATURES POUR LE PROGRAMME VITRINES MUSICALES
DESTINÉ AUX ARTISTES DES COMMUNAUTÉS FRANCOPHONES CANADIENNES
 MUSICACTION invite tous les artistes de la francophonie canadienne à déposer leur candidature au programme Vitrines musicales pour l’année financière 2010-2011. La date limite d’inscription est le 6 avril 2010.
En août 2009, MUSICACTION créait le programme Vitrines musicales à l’intention des artistes de la francophonie canadienne pour favoriser le développement de leur carrière sur scène. En effet, ce programme donne accès à des vitrines musicales dans le cadre d’événements contacts et de festivals ainsi qu’à des tournées organisées par les réseaux de diffusion. Au cours de cette première année, 30 artistes ont été soutenus dans les différents volets du programme :

Pour être admissibles au programme 2010-2011, les artistes doivent déposer leur candidature en complétant le formulaire en ligne au plus tard le 6 avril et en soumettant trois titres (mp3) et une photo récente (qualité 300 dpi). Nouveauté cette année, les candidatures seront soumises à un comité d’évaluation.

RAPPEL DES DIFFÉRENTS VOLETS DU PROGRAMME VITRINES MUSICALES 2009-2010
Les modalités 2010-2011 des différents volets font actuellement l’objet d’une révision. À titre informatif, voici un rappel des modalités de la première année.
Volet 1 Vitrines musicales nationales - Artistes professionnels
Ciblant les artistes ayant au moins un album en carrière, ce volet comporte deux sous-volets, soit :
A. L’aide au plateau et au déplacement des artistes dont l’accès est réservé aux artistes sélectionnés dans l’un des événements bénéficiant d’une aide sous ce volet. L’aide maximale par artiste est de 4 000 $, soit un maximum de 1 600 $ pour l’artiste et ses musiciens (incluant cachet, hébergement, per diem) et 2 500 $ pour le transport.
B. L’aide aux événements contacts et aux festivals qui accueillent les artistes présélectionnés par MUSICACTION.
Volet 2 Tournées nationales – Artistes émergents
Ciblant les artistes ayant au plus deux albums en carrière, ce volet vise le financement de tournées incluant un minimum de spectacles dans des villes différentes. L’aide maximale est de 15 000 $ par tournée. Il s’agit d’une aide au plateau et au transport aérien.
Volet 3 Vitrines et tournées internationales – Artistes professionnels
Ciblant les artistes ayant au moins un album en carrière et ayant vendu moins de 100 000 copies, ce volet vise à favoriser leur accès à des vitrines musicales à l’étranger. Une priorité est accordée aux projets comportant trois spectacles ou plus. La pertinence de la participation de l’artiste à l’événement doit être démontrée. L’aide maximale par projet est de 15 000 $.
