6. News from David Myles

An Evening with David Myles at the Empress Theatre – Moncton CD Launch
Friday April 23, 2010 - 07:30 pm
TICKET: General $20.50 Available at the Capitol Theatre Box Office or by phone 506 856 4379 or 1 800 567 1922 or online at http://www.capitol.nb.ca/e/show_id.php?shwID=585

A warm easy performer, Myles brings his audiences to their feet wherever he plays. His unabashed joy at being on stage is infectious, and his enthusiasm, along with a tendency to regale his audiences with humorous anecdotes, has made him a favorite wherever he plays. Whether it’s the Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill, or the 2010 Winter Olympics, Myles increasingly in-demand on the Canadian live music scene.
Setting out to make his fourth album, Turn Time Off, David Myles knew he was ready to try something a little different. His earlier releases, Things Have Changes ( 2006 ) and On The Line (2008 ) had already established his reputation as a versatile, genre bending artist with a knack for effortlessly straddling jazz, blues, folk and pop styles. Produced by acclaimed Nova Scotia musician Joel Plaskett, Turn Time Off is a smooth soul-infused pop record that pays tribute to crooners and lovers alike.

REVIEWS:
The fourth full-length release from Canada’s David Myles. While this fellow is already well-known in many musical circles, for us Turn Time Off serves as an introduction. Wow. This guy is good. Damn good. David Myles writes and records soothing mid-tempo pop injected with a heavy dose of modern soul.
- Babysue.com
With Joel Plaskett in the producer’s chair for his fourth record, New Brunswick’s David Myles hits all the right chords on each of the 11 tracks included on his new record Turn Time Off. Whether it be the laid-back feel of the title track and album opener Out Of Love or the pseudo-reggae feel of Run Away, you can’t help but be drawn in by Myles seamless shift between folk, blues and pop music.
- KenKelley.ca
From the opening moments of the melancholic Out of Love, Myles owns each and every song. He fuses the tracks with emotion without losing the listener. His thoughts could be yours, and as the warm melodies make you sway in time you get lost in the record. Gentle picks and touching harmonies fit perfectly beside experimental sounds (he drifts into a reggae feel on Run Away and even adds some spacey fuzz and dub to the quizzically titled Peace of Mind), subtle textures and even some Chuck Berry inspired electric chug. It's easy to hear this record and say that Myles has written his strongest hooks to date, but also challenged himself with bolder sounds and bigger goals.
- Herohill.com
Singer-songwriter David Myles will release his fourth album Turn Time Off on April 19th. The new songs flow through pop, folk, jazz, and blues, and back again. I’d never heard of David Myles until I received an advance of this album, but I’ll be sure to follow his career from now on.
