The tradition continues!
The Academy of Classical Ballet and Modern Dances is proud to present the
Nutcracker Ballet from December 8-10, 2017 at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton.

The holiday classic, based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s cherished holiday story, is a wonderful dreamscape of childhood reveries, fantastic creatures and magical events, brought to life by the Academy dancers in a magical decor and festive ambiance. Academy Director Suzanne Bourque says that many new twists and turns will surely surprise and delight audiences as the Academy continues to rework and modernize this perennial classic while maintaining its classical integrity and character. She is thrilled to be continuing this holiday tradition with the Capitol Theatre. This will mark the fourth year professional dancer Alexandre Francoeur, a Montrealer who is currently residing in Los Angeles, will perform in the ballet as the Nutcracker prince. “I look forward to this time of year as it is truly a magical experience to dance with the impressive local dance talent produced by the Academy and take part in such a wonderful production. This has become a tradition, and I make space for it in my calendar each year. It has been really special to see the dancers' growth over the years, and I can’t wait to arrive and see all of the new elements of the ballet as Suzanne and her team take it to the next level each time I come down.’’

This year’s production promises to bring delight and joy with the timeless beauty of Tchaikovsky’s brilliant score, impressive visual effects, beautiful costumes and dramatic lighting. With evening performances on December 8th and 9th as well as matinée performances on the 9th and 10th, the Academy is hoping that people will once again embrace what is quickly becoming a great holiday tradition in Downtown Moncton. ‘’For our dancers and staff, coming to the Capitol Theatre in December is the kick off to our Holiday season; it’s like coming home and seeing all our family and friends for a weekend. The staff at the Capitol have become our friends and the Theatre our second home.’’

This year’s Nutcracker promises to be quite the experience for the public with a professional photo booth in the lobby during the intermission, Nutcracker coffee and tea created by local companies, chocolate from Adorable Chocolat and Nutcracker memorabilia for sale. Professional dancers also make the event particularly stellar, and this year, the Academy’s ballet mistress Jennifer Mendoza will be joining the cast! ‘’We can’t wait to have everyone together again; it’s truly a magical weekend. Every year, our goal is to make it bigger and better, and as our dancers grow up essentially with the production, it gets both better and easier each year.’’

Your guides through this magical story are the talented performers who make up the Academy of Classical Ballet Youth Theatre Inc. as well as guest performers, both amateur and professional.
