If optimism had a sound it would be every rattle, click and thwack that comes from Lisa McLaggan’s washboard. She ticky-tacs her way through each number with rollicking speed and exuberance; leaving the audience wide eyed and smiling because the genre for Tomato Tomato really is joy.

Their harmony is air-tight; John’s McLaggan’s folk style guitar playing anchoring Lisa’s kick drum syncopation.Through it all winds whimsical strings, washboards, tins, tappers and clackers that flutter about the melody like sandpipers on the Bay of Fundy.

Tomato Tomato has proudly entertained prestigious audiences in 2016 at The Stan Rogers Folk Festival, Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival and Black Sheep Inn in Canada (among others) with dips into various US states. This year folks can catch them at The Regina Folk Festival, The National Arts Centre in Ottawa, throughout the island in the province of Newfoundland, Australia’s Broadbeach Music Festival as well as on tour in the UK for two weeks. More summer dates will be announced shortly closer to home.

The duo recently visited a popular Saint John local store, Backstreet Records, to film a video for their remixed track “Everything You Need”, which is available on all streaming media soon, available on their website now.

The video features a series of fun fan moments as they try John and Lisa’s unique instrument set-up and get their “washboard on” literally! The video and single are released TODAY in an advance celebration of Record Store Day this Saturday.

Next week, The East Coast Music Awards in Saint John, New Brunswick will feature these hometown darlings, Tomato Tomato, on the Awards Show Gala, as well as the Folk Stage and Export Stages. They will also be part of CBC’s Weekend Morning programming live from Saint John with host Bill Roach.
