Luscious reverbs cascading into a bed of dismayed feelings could describe the sound of dream weavers, Sheik. The Saint John, NB based group consists of Colin Ferris and Lorne Kirkpatrick, with the addition of Kortni Nicols for live performance. Their shoegaze influence is shown through forms of celestial melodies and stellar, trance-indulging waves of abrasive rock. It's like being stuck between a dream and a nightmare.
Frequently compared to the likes of Slowdive, Dinosaur Jr., and Cocteau Twins, Sheik is a uniquely crafted trio that blends power pop, shoegaze and indie rock. Their atmospheric and euphoric frequencies of guitar, bass and drums paired with Colin’s raw and emotional melodies complemented by Kortni’s soft but crystal clear harmonies will leave you mesmerized.
In September 2016, Sheik released their debut EP entitled “Go Away From Yourself” which has been described as “a dreamy mix of lo-fi noise pop that on occasion, dips shamelessly into psych and indie rock territory” by Grid City Magazine. Since the release of their EP they have been frequently charting on the CMFH top 30, as well as landing on Grid City Magazine's "100 Essential New Brunswick releases" list in 2016. In 2017, they were nominated for “Best New Artist” at the Saint John Music Awards and have also performed sets during the 2017 Radio ECMA, Quality Block Party and Perish Festival. Sheik have released their first single of 2018 titled "Alone in the Dark" from their upcoming EP.
Sheik’s trance-indulging live performance will animate your senses, from spine-chilling riffs, thunderous rhythms to atomic waves balancing irrepressibly bliss and fretful melancholy lyrics.
Sheik are currently in the studio recording their second EP that will show a strong improvement in overall confidence, song writing and playing. With the focus on delivering studio quality music, Sheik has shifted their focus on to clear, melodic vocals, sinuous guitars and dreamlike soundscapes.
