Brian J. Francis


Brian J. Francis of Elsipogtog First Nation in New Brunswick is involved in television production and filmmaking as a producer, director, and writer. Brianʼs company, BearPaw Productions, has recently been nominated for "Best Television Program/ Promotion of Aboriginal Music," through the Aboriginal Choice Music Awards.
Brianʼs major concern is the survival of the Miʼkmaq people and their culture. He sees the stories of Glooscap as one of his peopleʼs major contributions to the heritage of the world and is currently working towards bringing these stories, which he first heard from his father, to audiences around the world.
For many years, Brian managed the award-winning aboriginal recording artists, Eagle Feather. He brought the group from the bar scene all the way up to the Juno Awards as the first Native group to be nominated in the Aboriginal Category, as well as the ECMA. He spearheaded the development and production of the long-running APTN series, Eastern Tide, followed by, Wabanaagig.
