The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra inspires excellence among children and youth through the learning and performance of orchestral music. NBYO was founded in 1965, and is Canada's longest standing provincial youth orchestra. Recent tours and recordings have brought international acclaim to the organization. Guest artist collaborations have included packed concert performances with Matt Andersen, Jill Barber, Radio Radio, The Divorcees, and David Myles.
NBYO Annually recognizes outstanding contributors to the development of youth orchestral music with the Lieutenant Governor's NBYO Award.
ECMA Award nominated NBYO recordings include Forbidden City Tour CD (2007), Blues on the Boulevard DVD (2009), and Musikfreunde CD 2011). The orchestra's most recent recording is Keeping Faith / Gardons espoir, which includes an original piece "A Dream of Dawn"...composed by TSO's RBC Composer in Residence--Kevin Lau. A Dream of Dawn was premiered in Vienna's Musikverein (Golden Hall) in July 2014. NBYO included A Dream of Dawn in concert appearances throughout 2014-15 as a commemoration of the centenary of the beginning of World War One.
