Streetgrass from New Brunswick
Hailing from Edmundston, New Brunswick, Crooked Rapids delivers a high-energy blend of folk, country, and bluegrass infused with an infectious streetgrass spirit. The trio has quickly carved out a reputation for a sound that is both rustic and electrifying—a musical experience best described as a backwoods jam session fueled by moonshine, mountain lore, and boundless energy.

The Sound
The signature Crooked Rapids sound is a potent mix of warm acoustic guitar, the grit of swampy resonator picking, and rapid-fire mandolin runs. With heartfelt vocals underpinned by the thump of the steady, anchoring rhythm of the upright bass, the band creates a musical tapestry that honors tradition while pushing it forward with an exciting, high-octane performance.

The Formation
Crooked Rapids was initially formed in June of 2023 by two friends with a unified musical vision, Sean Connely and Richard Guay. Each would contribute rhythm on acoustic guitar while the other played lead, Rich on the mandolin and Sean on the resonator. The duo soon became a powerful trio with the addition of Sean’s high school friend and fellow musician, Doris Berube, rounding out the ensemble on the indispensable upright bass. By early 2024, the band truly hit their stride, moving into a new gear of creativity and performance.

Momentum and the Road Ahead
Over the last two years, Crooked Rapids has built significant momentum, actively gigging and honing their craft throughout Northwestern New Brunswick. They are eager to share their unique brand of acoustic music with a wider audience across Eastern Canada.

Looking forward, the band is currently in the studio recording their debut album, which is slated for release in the Fall of 2026. This release will be supported by a tour designed to bring their distinctive sound to new stages and new listeners.
