And the 2021 winners are...

Music•Musique NB (MNB) celebrated the 12th edition of the Prix MNB Awards, during a live stream show hosted by David Myles (he/il) at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre (Fredericton). For a second year in a row, the event took place without a live audience. All in all, some 14 statuettes were handed out to New Brunswick artists and music industry professionals.

Les Moontunes (Breakthrough Artist + Video), The Cap (Venue + Innovator), and Wolf Castle (Indigenous Artist + Recording) lead the winners, picking up two awards each. For the first time in the history of the Prix MNB Awards, there was a tie for Recording of the Year. Both string duo Pallmer and Mi'kmaw rapper Wolf Castle came away with the coveted award, while Acadian songwriter Chloé Breault snagged the Enregistrement de l'année. Notable among the other recipients were One8tea and Cédric Vieno, who were handed SOCAN Song of the Year and Chanson SOCAN de l'année respectively.

"I want to congratulate all of the nominees tonight, who represent just a fraction of all the music that is created in our industry," says Tracey Richard (she/elle), Vice-President of MNB. "We want to acknowledge the work of all those who share their time, their talents and their creativity with us."

In light of the current situation, Festival (506) pivoted to a digital-only event. Showcases will be recorded this weekend without a live audience, at the Charlotte Street Arts Center (Fredericton), the Carrefour Beausoleil (Miramichi) and the Aberdeen Cultural Centre (Moncton). Artists and industry pros will have a chance to network and attend professional development sessions, Nov. 18-20, via the platform Gather.

Festival (506) has been made possible through the support of numerous partners including the government of New Brunswick. We acknowledge the financial support of FACTOR, Musicaction, the Government of Canada and of Canada’s private radio broadcasters.
